I paint landscapes as a way to work through perception and structure at the same time. The paintings are made alla prima, sometimes from observation and sometimes from photographs, using speed as a constraint rather than a form of expression. I’m not interested in scenic climax or expressive flourish; instead, I try to let decisions remain visible and unresolved enough to keep the image from becoming illustrative or emotionally prescriptive.
